The building of the metro line 2 is well on the way. The digging now brought a huge boulder to light. Apparently it dates back from the ice age. UPDATE missing blog entry: That's right the ventilation exhaust which was added to the recently renovated underpass by rondo waszyngtona. The closer look reveals a very home made installation. Kowalska robota, as those features sometimes are called. Pity that the city when doing the renovation did not provide for a adequate solution.

New newsstand for the metropolis

I don't know if you are like me but it took me while to notice the brand new newsstands which are sprouting like mushrooms in stead of the old rundown RUCH kiosks. The elegant dark color makes them less obtrusive to the eye and is a big improvement over their green old incarnation. They even have a coffee corner! Way to go for a new more modern cityscape.

This weekend we discovered a new nice place to sit and have a snack in the peaceful atmosphere of the Wilanów park. Just facing the church the cafe Wilanów's inviting garden is a pleasure for the soul and the food was really affordable and tasty. Try the chłodnik, a real treat on a hot day.

Today I read in Gazeta, that the prices for the public transport will go up. No surprise, since in comparison to other European cities the fares were very low. I have to say I am willing to pay bait more to get better service, just get rid of those old stinky and loud buses. They are a disgrace to the modern looks of our dynamic metropolis.

I pass this greenhouse everyday while riding my bike from and to work. It very long and very run down. Many glass panes are broken or missing. Progressively nature is taking it over benefiting from the micro climate the remaining building provides.

It's surprising how sometimes things crumble over night. Last time I looked that plaster was still on the wall. It made for a quaint picture though.

This is the place where the Rolling Stones ate golonka and in the 70's you would get some of the best kitchen in Warsaw or in Poland. Still today it emits the charm of those years, the deco is original and quite unique. The service is prompt and friendly. It reminds a lot a visit to grandma - the waitress reminding you to eat up - as just one example.
An unlikely place, full of charm. Next time you are on belwederska crossing with dolna, be sure to pop in for a small something and be transported back in time.

Today, on my extensive walk with my son that the park is populated by people drinking beer in public. So do it in the open ( the younger crowd ) and other hide their bottles below their coats. So if you notice a man with his lift hand reaching in the coat it's not necessarily for a gun.
